I’m pretty happy with it. I Like how everything makes a V to the plate. It’s certainly harsh, but by intent and I don’t think it’s unpleasantly harsh. Just… Well… Harsh, and oppressively red. Futura is kind of a stupid font, but it looks okay against whatever godawful nightmare is going on behind it.

If I could change anything it’d be the color of Will’s coat. Which I can change, and might. I’m thinking lime green.

And all of a sudden, like a bright flash, I remember all the reasons the younger me wanted to watch society burn. We all dreaded office work. None of us wanted to end up chained to desk. For a fleeting moment, I thought I was wrong. I was right out college, and I thought a salary would be nice. Then I entered the work force and realized the wisdom of my highschool self. If anything he underestimated the existential horror that is modern careers. Look, they all wanna hire you for ten dollars an hour. This is above minimum wage, but around five dollars an hour less than you need to survive. They throw you in a room filled with computers and 20 to 30 other desperate people and make you fight to survive. After all, your only making ten an hour, your barley making ends meet as it. If you lost this job… It’s unthinkable. So you push and push. You try to stand out, but it’s hard. The work is mostly done with computers. The best you can really hope for is a job moving data from one piece of software to another. All the bosses see or hear of you is a number and a rank on a spread sheet. God help you if you are at the bottom.

And you say to your self or god, I” went to college. I did everything I was suppose to do! ” and there will be no answer. There won’t even be silence. Just the clacking of keys and the squeak of chairs, and in the white noise it’s hard to not feel stupid for asking in the first place. Look around, everybody in here had the exact same right to ask the exact same question, and if that’s the case does the question really mean anything? No. This is just our lot in life. This is the land which we are bound by natural law to farm, and everyone around you will cut your throat for even a dollar more an hour.

I don’t blame them. I’d do the same. Another dollar an hour means I can pay the gas bill for the first time since college. Two dollars, and I could start to tackle my loans. Three dollars and I could be free just in time to see my children graduate college.

It’s not all dark though. Working through lunch means you won’t have enough time to realize that every data point you enter is making someone you’ll never meet millions. And when you get let go you can take comfort that the company will only fight to deny your first unemployment claim. They usually let you have it after the second attempt.

or I’m getting older and live where older people live. Don’t get me wrong; I feel as young and spry as ever, or, at least, I like to think of my self that way. True, I haven’t drank so hard that I found myself puking in the middle of an apology in a couple years, but I still feel like that is a goal I can achieve with grace and dignity.
